The holidays are coming! Even though Christmas is nearly three months away, I have already started my shopping and making sure my kids’ Amazon wishlists are up to date. I love Amazon wishlists, and our family does too! They’ve been an enormous help to me over the years, and everyone who has used my kids’ wishlists have appreciated the way they can actually see what the kids want or need.
I always tell my friends that an Amazon wish list is the way to go with your kids, and even for yourself. They’re easy to set up, you can add any item from any website, and it’s Amazon, so the site runs well and you know it’s not going away. Plus, it’s easy to find wishlists in case you’re looking for one.
It Saves Me Time
It makes it easy for me to keep track of things they want. If we are out at Target, for example, and my son wants something, I tell him that we’ll add it to his wishlist (super easy to do via their app) and not only do I have it ready to go when someone asked what he wanted for Christmas, but it also eliminated his begging for me to buy it for him at the store! Once his birthday or Christmas rolls around, I don’t have to waste any time seeing what he wants or needs– doing it on the go is a big time saver for me.
It Saves Me Money
When you add an item to your wishlist, it also will track a price drop. You can look at your list, and it will show you how much an item has decreased (or increased) since you’ve added it to the list.
It Saves Clutter
With a wishlist, my kids are receiving gifts that they really need or want, and even items that don’t take up any space. I’ll often add “experience” gifts to their wishlist, like zoo or museum memberships. You can add items fro any website to their wishlist using the Universal Wish List function that I describe below.
While I’m no etiquette expert, I do realize that many people are uncomfortable with the idea of “asking” for gifts. I only give out the link if someone contacts me for ideas– I don’t ever post or share otherwise.
How to Set Up Your Wishlists
Wishlists are super easy to set up. Once you’re logged into your account, go to the item you want to add, and under cart it will say “Add to List.”
You will see an option to create a list, and you will be prompted to name your list and add additional details if you’d like. * Important * Make sure you say you are setting it up for yourself, otherwise you will be the only one who can see it! *
Now that your list is set up, anytime you hit add to list, you will have the option to add to the list you’ve created or add to others that you’ve created (if you’ve created more than one.) I have a list set up for each member of my family, so I just add to the appropriate person’s list.
What if you’re on another website and you want to add to your Amazon wish list?
From your computer: Download Amazon Assistant, an add-on for Google Chrome. When you’re on a website and find an item you want, click on the assistant and then the list tab. You will see the option to add the item to your list.
From your phone (iOS:) Be sure to have the Amazon app on your phone. From Safari, hit “Share,” and where you have all your share icons, hit “More.”
You will see an Amazon icon titled, “Wish List.” Turn it on.
Now if you find an item while in Safari, hit share, and the Amazon icon. You will see the wish list options there once you click the icon.
Note for Android Users:
At the time of this posting I couldn’t find any instructions on how to install the Wish List option on Android, but as soon as I find something that looks reputable, I will add it to this post.
