Today is my daughter’s 7th birthday. I feel like I just brought her home from the hospital! We are having her birthday celebrations this coming weekend, but I still like to do something special on their actual birthday. Problem is, it’s a school day birthday!
I’m big on traditions and making birthdays a big deal, but obviously have limited options when she’s in school all day. I’m not keeping her home, I will send her to school. But these are the ways we will make it special.
My daughter is not shy at all, and will probably tell everyone she sees today that it is her birthday. I bought her a special “7” shirt to wear and a birthday tiara headband to wear (purchased on Zulily, no longer available.)
Reading in Class
Many teachers have birthday rituals in their classroom. Reach out to your child’s teacher to see what they do, or to see if you can do anything special in the classroom that day. My daughter’s teacher allows a parent to come in and read to the class. We aren’t allowed to bring in treats like our parents did growing up, but it’s still fun and she is so excited to have me come in!
Fun After School
I’ve taken the day off of work, and we are going to the movies! We don’t go to the movies often, so it’s out of the ordinary and especially exciting on a school day. In the past, we’ve gone to open play at local trampoline parks. What’s great about doing these activities after school is that we have the place all to ourselves. You can also plan a playdate at your house with one or two friends, with a special after school snack.
She is choosing our dinner– and her choice is tacos! We also have one of these special plates, which my kids love. She’ll get to eat on the special plate, which she has already been talking about for a week now!
I love birthdays because they’re always a happy celebration!
