IknowI have mentioned this multiple times here on the blog, but yikes, my brain is FRIED. Between managing the schedule of my two kids, my husband, myself, our social lives, sports, work, etc… I feel like my brain has hit capacity 100 times over. I have quite a few systems for dumping my brain out and remembering things. For convenience purposes, though, the stock Notes app on my iPhone is a lifesaver.
I always have my phone with me, so whenever something pops into my head, I can always access this app.
Here are some of the notes I always keep on my phone:
Blog Post Ideas
Any time I have an idea for the blog, I immediately pop it into my notes.
Clothes We Need
This list is a godsend for me, because my kids are constantly growing out of things. Whenever I notice that they need something, I add it to my list, so I don’t forget when I’m out shopping our placing an online order. I also include myself and my husband on my list for the same reason!
Future Event and Party Plans
I keep notes for multiple events that will repeat. For example, I run our PTO’s Teacher Appreciation week every year, so I keep a note on that (feedback, what to make sure to remember, who to call for each particular item, etc.) We host birthday parties each year for our kids, and I keep track of things to remember for that too (what pizza was popular, for example, and what worked and what didn’t.) My son made his First Communion last year, so I kept a note of things to remember when my daughter makes hers (how much food to order, what time to get to the Church, etc.)
Notes for Annual Doctor Appointments
I always like to bring a list of questions to my kids’ doctors’ appointments, so as things come up, I add them to this list.
Movies We Want to Watch
This stuff always comes up at random times, so I will add them here.
I use Instagram for the blog, and I keep my list of hashtags that I always use for each post in a note, so I can just copy and paste them.
This is one of my favorite hacks for the Notes app. I save a list of gift ideas so whenever I’m around someone and they mention something they love, or want, or need, I add it. Then when the next gift giving opportunity comes around, presto! I look like a rockstar.
Yard Sale Group Postings
I post a lot on Facebook yard sale groups, and often, I post the same information (pickup near such and such, cash only, porch pickup available, etc.) so I save those as a note so I can copy and paste and quickly post an item.
We go to the same place every year, so I save things like restaurants we don’t want to repeat or activities we want to try that we have missed out on in the past.
A Few Other Important Things to Know about Notes
You can easily share them
I often take notes and email them to friends (maybe I’m at a meeting that they missed, or got some info that they need access to.) Just hit the share button and you’ll have the option to email.
You can password protect notes
You can password protect notes, but only ones that are backed up on iCloud. This might be good if you have something you want no one else to see accidentally (gift ideas is a good one for this.)
The Notes app has been an absolute life saver for me, and if you are suffering from a case of mom brain, these tips might help you out!
Do you use the notes app for brain dumps? I’m always coming up with new ways to use it… please share your ideas in the comments!
